RAWALPINDI: Lady Health Workers (LHWs) on Wednesday staged a protest in front of deputy commissioner office against the Punjab government for not regularising their services despite the notification issued in this regard in 2012.

“We will stage a sit-in in front of the Punjab Assembly in Lahore if our demands were not accepted by May 11,” said Rukhsana Anwar, Punjab National Programme Health Employees Association President while talking to Dawn after the protest.

She said in 2012, the Punjab government had issued a notification, regularising the services of 50,000 workers in the province but ironically, it was not implemented and the workers are still on contract.

She said hat the lady health workers demanded improvement in the service structure, payment of outstanding dues and if the government failed to implement this, the protest camp will be set up in front of the provincial assembly.

Earlier, the protesters gathered at Jinnah Park and marched towards the offices of deputy commissioner and city police officer and remained there for an hour to record their protest.

The participants carried placards and chanted slogans against the government for its failure to implement its own notifications. The participants dispersed peacefully after the protest.
