KARACHI: Renowned sports organiser Gohar Raza was elected as president while famous athlete Naseem Hameed and Mohammad Riaz Senior were elected as general secretaries and Sher Ali as treasurer of Karachi Athletics Association (KAA) in its elections held at a local hotel here on Wednesday.

Among other office bearers elected on the day, Humaira Khan and Hasan Akbar Zaidi were elected as senior vice presidents while Muhammad Nizam was elected as media secretary.

The elected body also chalked out a year-long schedule of activities from May 2017 to March 2018 which will include an athletics coaching course in May, an Independence Day Inter-District Athletics Championship in August, the Inter-School/Collegiate Relay and Athletics Championships in September and a mini marathon in December.

In the next year, the KAA will be holding a technical officials course in January followed by a Fastest Man/Woman contest in Karachi in Feb 2018 and Pakistan Day athletics in March.

The body has been elected for the next four years as per National Sports Policy.

The representatives of affiliated units, Districts South, East, Korangi, Malir, West and Central took part. The house also approved the activity report, next expected budget and amended constitution.

List of officie bearers elected: Gohar Raza (President), Naseem Hameed (General Secretary), Muhammad Riaz (General Secretary), Sher Ali (Treasurer), Humaira Khan and Hasan Akbar Zaidi (Sr Vice Presidents), Raja Ijaz, Mehmood Baig, Humaira Siddiqui, Farzana Usman, Muhammad Irfan, Tanya Perera, Mehjabeen Shoaib and Rehanuddin (Vice Presidents), Muhammad Rafi, Hasan Mohsin, Mehwish Khan, Khushila Kumari (Associate Secretaries), Muhammad Nizam (Media Secretary), Shahid Nawab (Media Coordinator, Kashan Haroon (Office Secretary), plus the executive members.
