REFERENCE the report in your paper (April 15) saying that the residents of Gorano and some other villages of Tharparkar were deeply concerned over the release of “waste water” into the “controversial reservoir”, also known as the Gorano dam.
We all know very well that Tharparkar is the worst arid area of the country.
Owing to the extreme scarcity of water in the shape of subsoil water, as well as the low rainfall, people face a lot of hardship.
For the last few years newspapers have been reporting extensively about people’s suffering as a result of water scarcity.
Now that the water is gushing into the area and going into the Gorano dam, I wonder why people are protesting and not making the best out of the opportunity which has come their way.
Nowhere in the news report was it stated that the water flowing into the area was foul or injurious to people’s health.
My advice to the area people is not to get politicised as with a little bit of self-help they can have water purified.
