The Government of Punjab is set to launch an "Orange Cab" scheme seeking to provide 100,000 cars to unemployed youth in the province.
"The Orange Cab scheme will be launched this year," the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was quoted as saying by the provincial government in a tweet.
Sharif expressed his desire to see the framework of the scheme developed electronically in order to restrict any possibility of mismanagement or corruption.
'"The scheme will provide 100,000 people with a source of income," he said, adding, "Previously, as part of the 'Apna Rozgar' scheme, the Punjab government has disbursed 50,000 cars to Punjab's young people."
CM Shahbaz Sharif stressed the importance of mobility as essential in helping young people secure a respectable source of income.
The Punjab government is known for its focus on expanding road infrastructure across Punjab's major cities.
With the Orange Cab scheme in the pipeline, the province may see a surge in the number of cars on its streets.
According to a survey conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the total unemployment rate in Pakistan stood at 5.9 per cent, in 2014-15.

I have heard leaders inspiring youths to innovate and be entrepreneurial. First time I am coming across a leader providing vehicles to encourage youth to become drivers and congest the road and continue polluting the environment. At least provide them with electric cars to raise awareness and be a change to develop the electric vehicle ecosystem. All the tax monies are being wasted in such non-visionary ideas.

Have we forgotten how Sharifs plundered national wealth on Yellow Cab Scheme and made millions in commission? This is part two of the same mindset. They are providing 100000 cars to youth to run taxi business. And if so then question arises do we need 100000 taxis? Probably we will have to approach court to stop Sharifs from using money from government exchequer as bribe before elections.

Here in India we see similar tricks especially during pregnancy election season. I have not heard any politician or arm chair socialists telling the freebie demanding groups that one needs to put in 8 hours of sincere work for six days a week. They say there is lot of unemployment in India where as we struggle to find people willing to work for double the minimum wage rate. Lots of freebies for various sections from tax payers money, but no significant investment in health and education. We are all same in the sub-continent.

How many more taxi drivers would you throw on roads now? Can we please place the young educated people in some department where they can actually earn money along with self-respect? Or this is all the game of upcoming elections 2018. Of people had to drive taxis and become cabbies I believe any person holding driving license can do so then why do we waste our money on education? Before starting the scheme, CM should get views of the Federal Ministry of Communication about the available space on urban roads. Already congestion on roads and frequent traffic jams, is taking heavy toll on vehicles and useless burning of fuel that also adds heavily to pollution.

Had they learned any lesson from past Yellow cab scheme, he would have restrained from such wastage of state resources. Earlier PMYBL scheme has eaten away billion of rupees of exchequer now they have announced one more way of corruption.
