A 15-year old girl was burnt to death under mysterious circumstances in Model Colony area in Karachi on Wednesday, according to police and hospital officials.
They added that Sidra Mansoor, 15, died of burn wounds during treatment at Burns Centre of Civil Hospital Karachi.
Additional police surgeon, Dr Qarar Ahmed told Dawn that a person named Maqbool who introduced himself as maternal uncle brought the girl with critical burn wounds for treatment at around 4:40pm on Wednesday. She died during treatment at 6:30 pm
She has suffered 100pc burn injuries, added Dr Qarar.
She originally belonged to Larkana and had come to Karachi for studies and was staying at home of her maternal uncle.
Initially, the maternal uncle told the police that some youth entered their home located in Model Colony and set her on fire but later on he changed the statement and said that she was set on her fire by someone on street outside the home. Her parents have been informed who were on their way to Karachi.
“The circumstances leading to death of the girl appeared suspicious,” said Korangi SSP Nauman Siddiqi.
Siddiqui added that the relatives also appeared reluctant to conduct her post-mortem examination.
The senior officer added that the police were investigating the case.
