CHAKWAL: A marriage celebration turned into a tragedy when the groom and his uncle were gunned down for ‘honour’ in the Bhagtal village in the jurisdiction of the Tamman police.

The mother of the groom sustained injuries.

According to officials, six years ago the daughter of Mal Khan contracted a love marriage with Mohammad Irfan. Mr Khan and his sons did not take any action due to their poverty but a year later the niece of Irfan also contracted love marriage with Munir Hussain, the elder son of Mr Khan.

Her brother Ghulam Akbar filed a case with the police, accusing Munir Hussain of kidnapping his sister. But in the court, his sister stated that she had married of her own free will. As a result, the case was dismissed.

On Saturday, the marriage of Amjad Hussain, the younger brother of Munir, took place. During the night, Ghulam Akbar along with his two nephews – Nisar and Irfan – allegedly stormed the house of Amjad and Munir. When Amjad and his uncle Maqbool Elahi came out, the attackers opened fire on them, killing them on the spot. The mother of Amjad was injured.

“We are trying our best to arrest the killers,” said investigation officer Mansoor Mazhar.
