ISLAMABAD: The Shia Ulema Council (SUC) has said it does not welcome any talks or sitting with the leaders of the proscribed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ).
Apropos the Dawn story titled ‘Ludhianvi hopeful of ASWJ’s unbanning’ published on Wednesday (March 29), the SUC disowned a statement attributed to Allama Arif Wahidi, the party’s secretary general, welcoming ASWJ leader Ahmed Ludhianvi’s offer to “sit together to iron out differences between the two parties”.
According to the SUC, any such meeting would be held only after the ASWJ stopped supporting extremists involved in hate speech.
