KARACHI: A suspected robber was killed and his two accomplices were arrested in a wounded condition in an ‘encounter’ on the outskirts of the city, police said on Friday.

The Gulshan-i-Maymar police said that four suspects riding on two motorcycles were allegedly looting people at Ahmed Goth when a police patrol reached the scene late on Thursday night.

The suspects resorted to ‘indiscriminate firing’ and several bullets hit the police mobile van, but the policemen remained safe, claimed area SHO Mir Mohammed Lashari. The police returned fire and in the ensuing encounter three suspected robbers sustained bullet wounds and were arrested. Their fourth accomplice, however, escaped.

The wounded suspects were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared one of them, later identified as Ashraf Imam, dead. The other two were identified as Ali Akbar and Ismail and they were being treated at the health facility.

He said that the deceased, who was recently enlarged on bail, and the wounded were wanted in several criminal cases, including attacks on police and robberies.

The police claimed to have seized three pistols and two motorbikes from their possession.

Tailor found shot dead in Sohrab Goth

A tailor was shot dead in the Sohrab Goth area on Friday, police said.

They said that the body of a man, identified as Damsaz Ali, 45, was found in his home adjacent to his shop at Hindu Mohallah in Sindhi Society off Superhighway. He was shot in the neck.

Area policeman Ahsanullah Marwat said that a customer informed his neighbour at 2pm that he was getting no response despite several knocks at his door. Someone from the neighbourhood scaled the walls of his house and entered the premises to find him dead.

The victim lived alone in the house. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The police suspected some personal enmity as a likely motive for the killing.

Cousin booked for killing property dealer

An estate agent was shot dead and his wife wounded in Surjani Town on Friday, according to police. Syed Nayab Alam, 45, was killed and his wife, Nabeela, 35, hurt inside their Taiser Town house allegedly by Samiullah alias Pappu, 22, a cousin of the deceased, said Surjani SHO Mulazim Husain.

The suspect managed to escape. The police registered a murder case against him on the complaint of the victim’s wife.

Meanwhile, two suspected robbers were shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in the Napier area late on Thursday night, according to police. They were identified on Friday morning by their relatives as Hisam Sultan and Ubaid Haq Nawaz, both residents of Lyari.
