QUETTA: The provincial health minister, Rehmat Saleh Baloch, on Wednesday inaugurated a regional blood centre at the Bolan Medical Complex in Quetta which was established with the help of a grant of Rs150 million from the German government.

Representatives of the German government, country director of the KfW-Development Bank Wolfgang Moeller, Health Secretary Noorul Haq Baloch, retired Brig Abdul Razzaq and the honorary consul general of Germany in Quetta also attended the ceremony.

The Quetta Blood Centre is one of the 10 regional centres set up with the German grant of Rs2 billion as part of a plan to establish a nationwide network of 10 modern blood centres and upgrade 59 existing hospital-based banks all over the country in the first phase of the Safe Blood Transfusion Project.

The second phase of the project, according to the speakers, has started.

The scope and coverage will expand with continued support from the Germans.
