KARACHI: The Pakistan Herald Workers Union (PHWU) hosted a reception in honour of the newly-elected office-bearers of the Karachi Union of Journalists at its union office here on Saturday.

On this occasion, the leadership of both unions agreed to take forward the ongoing struggle for the protection and safety of journalists in the metropolis in view of the fact that over a hundred print and electronic media journalists have lost their lives in the line of duty during the past few years.

PHWU General Sec­retary Shafiuddin Ashraf and President Rishad Mahmood along with KUJ General Secretary Faheem Siddiqui and President Hasan Mansoor emphasised the need for the constitution of the Eighth Wage Board at once and expressed concern over the fact that despite the passage of 17 long years, no progress whatsoever had been made on the matter by the government.
