GUJRAT: Aqeel Khan and Abid Mushtaq set the date in the final of men’s singles here on Thursday in the inaugural Gujrat Gymkhana Open National Ranking tennis Championship. Aqeel eliminated younger brother Yasir Khan 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 while Abid Mushtaq beat fellow Lahore player Heera Ashiq 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

The final of mens singles shall be played here on Saturday.

In the ladies singles semis, Pakistan number one Ushna Suhail brushed aside Kunsha Baber s 6-2, 6-1.

Results:

Mens singles (quarter-finals): Yasir Khan beat Shahzad Khan 6-7, 6-3, 6-4

Mens singles (semi-finals): Aqeel Khan beat Yasir Khan 6-4, 6-4, 6-4; Abid Mushtaq beat Heera Ashiq 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

Juniors U-18 singles (final): Yousuf Khan beat Saqib Umer 7-5, 4-6,6-2

Under-14 (semi-finals): Hamid Israr beat Abdul Samad Areejo 7-5, 6-1

Mens doubles semis: Aqeel Khan & Heera Ashiq beat Usman Abid 6-4, 4-6,10-6; Yasir Khan & Shahzad Khan beat Mudasir Murtaza & Muzamil Murtaza 6-4, 6-3.
