QUETTA: Nurses of the Civil Hospital and Bolan Medical College Hospital suspended their work on Monday and staged a protest demonstration to press the government for the acceptance of their demands.

The nurses of both major hospitals of the city did not attend their duties in all medical and surgical wards, gathered in the lawns of the Civil Hospital and shouted slogans against the government and in support of their demands.

Carrying banners and placards, they later took out a procession and reached the press club after marching on various thoroughfares.

Addressing the protesters, the chairperson of the Nurses Action Committee, Mina Luther, demanded representation in the government committee which was finalising recommendations regarding the nurses service structure and allowances.

She said the nurses would continue their strike till the acceptance of their demands.

She said that despite promises, the health authorities had done nothing to solve their problems.

However, she said the nurses would attend their duties in operation theatres and cardiac wards in the interest of the patients.

Ms Luther warned that the action committee would not accept the decisions of the recommendation committee if it was not consulted.
