GUJRAT: The first-ever shooting club in Gujrat district has become functional at the Shahbaz Sharif Park near the River Chenab.

The club was inaugurated by outgoing deputy commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha, now posted as Sargodha DC, while former federal minister Ayatullah Durrani from Balochistan, MPA Mian Tariq Mahmood and Gujrat acting DC Irfan Ali were also present.

The shooting club has been completed on park’s four-acre land in a record duration of three months at a cost of Rs10 million.

The construction of the riding club adjacent to the shooting club is also in a developing phase.

Both shooting and riding clubs will be run by the Gujrat Gymkhana administration whose members will also be the members of these clubs while its membership will also be given to separate applicants.

Acting DC Irfan Ali Kathia said the shooting club would help promote sports activities in the region and players would be extended the national-level facilities. He said the club would also help explore the hidden talent.

In another event, a stone-laying ceremony of Aurangzeb Mosque was held at the Shahbaz Sharif Park.

The state-of-the-art mosque at the park will be completed within six months with Rs10 million funds to be donated by local philanthropist Aurangzeb Butt.
