KHAR: A Bajaur Levies man was killed when a roadside bomb went off in Mamond tehsil here on Sunday morning, local people and political officials said.
They said the incident occurred at 11am in Niaag Bandar locality, some 20kms northwest of Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency.
The officials said the deceased was identified as Dilwar Khan, resident of Ghakhi village in Mamond tehsil. He was on a routine patrol in the area along with his colleagues when an explosive device placed on the edge of the road went off.
According to the officials, the bomb was detonated with a remote control.
The Levies man was critically injured in the blast and died while being taken to the agency headquarters hospital, Khar.
Officials of the local administration, Levies personnel and members of the area peace committee reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. However, according to the locals, the assailants managed to escape the area.
The administration officials said unknown miscreants were behind the incident.
