GUJRANWALA: Baghbanpura police on Thursday arrested six suspects for allegedly brewing liquor, seized 2.5kg charas and opium and dozens of stickers and seals.

In the wake of the Toba Tek Singh incident, SSP (Operations) Nadeem Khokhar launched a crackdown on sale of liquor.

A team under the supervision of City SP Tariq Mehmood took into custody Arslan Sunny, Sabir, Tariq Masih, Nadeem Masih, Allah Ditta and Irfan Masih who were allegedly brewing liquor. Police seized charas, opium, liquor and other material from their possession.

The suspects confessed to concocting liquor from different chemicals.

The SP told the media that the arrested suspects were wanted in dozens of cases in Gujranwala and Sialkot.

BAIL: Magistrate Farah Deeba on Thursday released on bail a minor who was caught stealing ladies’ purses during wedding ceremonies.

Hazaifa, 9, was caught at a marriage hall stealing a purse. Dhulley police produced him before magistrate Farrah Deeba who released him on his own surety bonds.

DAIRY UNIT SEALED: The Punjab Food Authority on Thursday sealed a dairy production unit for allegedly preparing unwholesome milk and seized 30,000 pounds injurious milk, 500kg butter, 80kg cream and other material.

A team supervised by PFA Deputy Director Badr Munir raided Swedish dairy production house and found unhygienic conditions.

A case has been registered against the owners.
