A woman found dead in a room allocated to a PML-N MNA at Lahore's Federal Lodges died of a drug overdose, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah told DawnNews on Friday.

Sanaullah, quoting medical reports, said the 35-year-old Samia Chaudhry hadn't been killed violently, but died of "overuse of drugs".

However, he said, doctors have yet to confirm the cause of death.

Police earlier said Samia Chaudhry, a resident of Sahiwal, had been living in the room since Nov 22. She was found dead by a waiter late on Saturday. She was staying at the lodges with the reference of MNA Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, from Sahiwal (NA-161).

It is impossible for someone to stay at the lodges without a reference from an MNA.

When asked how she was given a room, Sanaullah alleged she may have conspired or bribed the receptionist to get the room.

"Anyone who stays there needs to be properly identified with a CNIC or a reference. She had these things, she had no criminal record as such. She stayed there on and off," Sanaullah said, adding that her recent visit was "an unauthorised stay".

"She did not have permission to stay there," he said.
