KHAIRPUR: Demo held against power cut

KHAIRPUR, Dec 14: Residents of Bheelar held a demonstration in Ranipur on Sunday against the Hesco officials for disconnecting the power supply to their village.

The protesters told journalists that the officials had taken the step without any justification.

On Saturday, a large number of residents of about 25 villages of Gambat taluka took out a procession against the Hesco officials.

They said the officials had disconnected power supply to Gullu Siyal, Shafi Shahani, Lal Kumbhar, Miani, Mohammad Larik, Taagro, Gaad and others villages on the pretext of non-payment of arrears.

They said a few consumers had defaulted but the officials had compelled the entire

population of the villages to suffer whereas the Hesco authorities had instructed them to disconnect the power supply to those who had failed to pay arrears.

UC MEETING: A meeting of the Naseer Faqir Jalalani union council was held on Saturday.

The councillors complained of the lack of health facilities and criticized the police for failing to maintain law and order situation in the area.

UC Nazim Imtiaz Mallah told the meeting that a series of development works had been started in the area and expressed concern over increasing flour prices.

Later, the Nazim, Naib Nazim and councillors distributed flour and cooking oil among the poor families.

CONFERENCE: A three-day international conference on Pakistan archaeology will start from Dec 29 under the aegis of Shah Abdul Latif University.

An organizing committee, headed by the vice-chancellor Dr A R Malik, has been constituted for the conference.
