QUETTA: A soldier of the Frontier Corps (FC) was killed and two others were injured on Tuesday in a landmine explosion in Shamozai area near the Pak-Afghan border in Zhob district.

An FC spokesman said a patrol vehicle hit a landmine planted by militants, resulting in serious injuries to three soldiers. The FC vehicle was badly damaged in the blast. The injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital.

The militants who were hiding in the nearby mountains opened fire on the FC troops soon after the blast. The FC personnel retaliated with full force, forcing the assailants to flee, the spokesman said.

Later, one of the injured soldiers, Nasir Alam, died in the hospital, he said, adding that his funeral prayers were offered at the FC headquarters.
