KHAIRPUR, Dec 12: A team of Hesco Setharja sub-division on Friday disconnected the power supply to nine villages for non-payment of dues.

The team also disconnected about 300 illegal electricity connections.

The villages included Arbab Palh, Khan Mohammad Gaho, Rustam Ali Sehto, Morial Bhatti, Jan Mohammad Sehto, Liaq Bhambhro, Saathi Bhambhro, Mehmood Hussain Bhambhro and Qadir Bux Junejo.

INJURED: A youth, Zaheer Ahmed Memon, 35, was injured by some armed men on Thursday when he was sitting at a tea shop in Thehri town, near Khairpur.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital, Khairpur, where he breathed his last. The cause behind the incident was said to be an old enmity.

SUSPENDED: The Sindh irrigation secretary has suspended the engineer of Scarp tube-wells, Khairpur division, Manzoor Hussain Panhyar, on public complaints.

DEMO: Villagers staged a protest demonstration against the animal husbandry department in Thari Mirwah on Wednesday.

They accused officials of selling veterinary medicines.

They said their livestock had not been vaccinated since last two years as a result a large number of buffaloes, cows and goats were affected by diseases.

Cases against two contractors of the Shadi Shaheed extension project of the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) have been registered at the A-section police station, Khairpur, on Tuesday.

ARRESTED: The contractors, Ghulam Shabbir Phulpoto and Wazir Kubar, were arrested in an embezzlement case by the prosecutor, National Accountability Bureau, the other day.

They were produced before the NAB prosecution team at Sukkur and were interrogated on Monday night.
