WAH CANTT: Top seed Aqeel Khan and second seed Mohammad Abid will face each other in the final of the First Chairman POF Board National Ranking Tennis Championships after winning their semi-finals at the Ordnance Club here on Friday.

Aqeel eliminated Heera Ashiq 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in the first semi-final of the day which lasted for one hour and 50 minutes.

The second semi-final went on for four hours and 15 minutes, which Abid ultimately won by overcoming Muzammil Murtaza.

The losing player played aggressive tennis and took the set 6-4 by breaking the 7th game of Abid.

At one time, Muzammil was leading 3-1 in the second set but could not maintain pressure which Abid won 6-4.

In the third set, Abid built up winning lead of 4-2 by breaking the 6th game of Muzammil, at that time Muzammil came back in the set and broke the 7th game of Abid.

Abid won the third set 7-5 by breaking the 12th game of his opponent. He also won the fourth set 6-4.

The final will be played on Saturday (today) at 2:00pm.

Men’s doubles: Aqeel Khan/Shahzad Khan bt Muzammil Murtaza/Mudassir Murtaza 6-3, 6-0; M. Abid/Usman Rafiq bt Heera Ashiq/Ahmed Chaudhry 6-2, 6-0.

Boys’ U-18: Yousaf Khan bt Haris Irfan ul Haq 6-4, 6-2.

Boys’ U-14: M. Shoaib bt Nalain Abbas 7-5, 6-4; Hamza Bin Rehan bt Sami Zaib 6-3, 6-3

Boys’ U-10: Hamid Israr bt Bilal Asim 4-1, 4-0; Hamza Roman bt M. Huzaifa Khan 4-1, 4-0.

Boys U-10 singles (final): Hamid Israr bt Hamza Roman 4-1, 4-1.

Seniors 45 plus doubles: Jehanzeb Khan/Israr Gul bt Col Farrukh/Maj Mazhar 6-1, 6-2; Irfanullah Khan/ Nauman Aleem Durrani bt Brig Allah Nawaz/Aftab Ahmed Memon 4-6,6-0, 10-4.
