BUNER/SWABI: The Buner district police claimed to have arrested a would-be suicide bomber from Tango Pul Bajakatta and recovered a suicide jacket and explosives from his possession on Thursday.

According to a police statement, the detained would-be bomber was shifted to an undisclosed location for investigation. The raid was conducted by special operation group on prior information conveyed to Buner DPO Khalid Hamdani by intelligence agencies, it said.

It said that the accused had entered into the district with a plan to target high-profile personalities of the district and timely action of the law enforcement agencies foiled the attempt.

In Swabi, the district police recovered a five-kilogramme bomb and arrested 30 suspected people here on Thursday.

District police officer Javid Iqbal said that during a search operation in the mountainous area of Gadoon Amazai they found a pressure cooker in which the explosives and other required materials were placed.

He said that the explosive materials had been recovered from Malikabad area where the police conducted several operations.

The police have arrested 30 suspects who would go through investigations and those who are not involved in criminal activities would be released, the DPO said.

Answering a question, he said that the bomb was defused by bomb disposal squad.
