LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) will soon apply to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for allowing them to award degree jointly to the students clearing the final year of the five-year degree programme of Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The decision has been taken in the light of two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed jointly by the UVAS and FJMU. Under the law, the HEC can allow both the institutions to do so as there is no problem in making such an arrangement, said UVAS Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha on Tuesday.

“There was a problem for both the UVAS and FJMU. We (UVAS) had shortage of faculty on clinical chapters while the FJMU had a shortage of students. So there was a win-win situation for both the institutions after we pledged to provide them with strength while the FJMU assured us to provide clinical faculty under the MoUs,” said Dr Pasha.

Under the second MoU, the FJMU will facilitate nine months internship of undergraduate students of Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics of the UVAS at Sir Ganga Ram and Shahdara hospitals.
