OKARA: The security of the University of Okara has been improved with a Rs20 million project.

District Coordination Officer Sucrat Amman Rana and District Police Officer Faisal Rana visited the university campus on Friday and expressed their satisfaction over the security measures.

The university security was a cause of concern for the district administration; it is located on GT Road.

University chief security officer Jamil Asim said Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam had allocated Rs20 million for the security measures under which the boundary wall with iron and razor wire was erected, security cameras installed, a control room set up, weapons arranged and security guards hired.

The university will resume classes from Oct 17.

TRADERS: Businessmen and traders’ wings of the Okara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in a meeting, presided over by OCCI President Sheikh Iqbal Shahid, demanded that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) attach the Okara district with the Lahore regional tax office instead of Sahiwal.

Former OCCI president Chaudhry Arshad Iqbal said the offices concerned were aware of the fact Okara-based businessmen were more linked to Lahore than Sahiwal.

He said Lahore suited them as public, banking and appellate tribunals of courts, drug courts, Lesco offices and wholesale markets were located in Lahore.

He said they had strong reservations on FBR’s move to affiliate Okara with Sahiwal.
