NOWSHERA: The Nowshera police have arrested a man for blackmailing and sexually assaulting a girl whom he befriended on social networking site Facebook.

Police said that they were informed that a man and a woman were fighting on Mardan-Nowshera road. They said when the personnel arrived at the scene the woman told them that the accused, a resident of Safed Dheri area of Peshawar, befriended her after adding her on the Facebook.

The woman said later they also met on a few occasions, adding the man filmed the meetings stealthily and shared the same on Facebook when she refused to entertain his demands.

The woman also accused the man of drugging and sexually assaulting her and filming the scenes.

Police officials said checking of the man‘s cell phone confirmed the girl’s statement as they recovered pictures and videos of the girl. The officials said a 9mm pistol was also recovered from the man.

The police officials said the accused used to trap girls after befriending them on social networking sites and later blackmailed them. They said the accused also supplied these girls to other people.

The officials said the girl was shifted to Nowshera district headquarters hospital for medical examination, which established sexual assault and presence of drugs in her bloodstream.

Meanwhile, Civil Judge Nowshera Tayyab Jan remanded the accused into police custody for three days.
