NEW DELHI: India on Saturday raised with China its blocking of Jaish-i-Mohammad (JM) chief Masood Azhar’s banning by the UN as well as Beijing’s opposition to India’s NSG membership bid for which the two sides agreed to have a meeting soon between their top disarmament officials, the Press Trust of India said.

It said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her visiting Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, during their talks, also decided to put in place a new mechanism at the level of foreign secretaries to discuss various aspects of ties which have witnessed strains in the recent past.

The meeting coincided with reports that Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar would visit Washington this month, his second trip there in eight months.

Ms Swaraj also conveyed to Mr Wang India’s concerns on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in “disputed Kashmir” during the three-hour-long discussion including over lunch.

They reviewed the situation on the border and discussed further steps to strengthen peace and tranquillity.

Meanwhile, Mr Parrikar is expected to keep the signing of the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement with the US high on the agenda of his visit to Washington, reports said.

India and the US had announced in April this year the decision to conclude the logistic support agreement, but the pact has not been signed yet. Hopes are high on the US side that is in touch with India to draw up the agenda for the minister’s visit, before a schedule is formally announced, an American source told The Hindu.

A very happy independence day to my Pakistani friends. ......

Akbar Aug 14, 2016 08:44am

india should stop interfering in other countries and mind its own business!

J Ahsan Aug 14, 2016 08:44am

Burned!

Khan Aug 14, 2016 08:44am

Scheming, plotting and more plotting is the way of politics of the current Indian government. Be positive and focus on your internal issues. Majority of people in India are decent and prefer good relationship with neighbors. Current Indian government has to let go obsession against Pak-China economic cooperation because China will never back down.

Angry pitbull Aug 14, 2016 08:50am

China feeling the heat just wait very soon India will get NSG permanent member.

wishing pak indian humanity Aug 14, 2016 08:54am

The great game started and modi is not like other congress prime ministers to go calm and all Indians rally behind him.

Abi Aug 14, 2016 08:55am

Frustrated Indians playing now hide and seek ! Their hands are stained with the blood of kashmiri children , And they don't feel shame to talk about Azad Kashmir where people live peacefully , no bloodshed , no rape cases , no arrests , never bullet or pellets fired . Do Indians feel impatient to see Azad Kashmir also like occupied kashmiris ?

Pure Ind Aug 14, 2016 08:56am

Excellent move

javed Aug 14, 2016 08:59am

Gilgit Baltistan is disputed area..Pakistan has already conveyed to UN for following its resolutions, which means that CPEC in Gilgit Baltistan should stop..

Parachinari Aug 14, 2016 08:59am

It's a 42 billion dollar investment which will benefit Pakistan, China and the region. I'm pretty sure that given the givens nobody would place any concern on Indias so called "grievances" they belong in dust bin. How strange India will make noises on Kashmir when freedom fighters and activists in Kashmir are in a full blown revolt against India only - not Pakistan!

what is going on Aug 14, 2016 09:00am

India media did not highlight CPEC. They are only focusing on NSG. I think CPEC Should not be presented as anti India.

Zak Aug 14, 2016 09:01am

India will be told to resolve Kashmir according to UN resolution then every point on agenda will be resolved.

Desi Dimag Aug 14, 2016 09:01am

We trust Modi government, they will do something good for India.

Truth Aug 14, 2016 09:03am

Pro active government..

Desi Dimag Aug 14, 2016 09:10am

India and China will compromise on many issues because of South China sea. China has to decide which is important SCS or CPEC.

khanm Aug 14, 2016 09:18am

wonder why the dam was constructed in their side of kashmir while it was a disputed terrority...ambiguity will always get you...or may be not depends on which side UN tilts

Muhammed Asim Rao Aug 14, 2016 09:21am

This road is in China's interest so i do not believe that China would pay any heed to India's so-called concerns. This route is semi-alternate to south china see or provide at least 10% of alternate for fast deliver of its good to Middle East and the region. Besides this route would also make quench China's thirst of ever growing energy requirements. So any effort to stop or reduce its speed is futile. India should spend its energies on positive role - rather than negative propaganda. This is so unfortunate for this region - where such a major player in the region is playing a destablising role instead of constructive one.

سے Shaam (Hanafi) Aug 14, 2016 09:24am

Looks like China is in trouble on South Seas, and want India's blessings now.

supe-duper Aug 14, 2016 09:25am

This is the actual problem with our neighbour. ... he doesn't want to see us being prosperous. .. CPEC will continue IA

Rana Aug 14, 2016 09:28am

FYI China is interested in building nuclear power plant in India if India accept its proposal and doing feasibility study of Bangalore Chennai bullet train and industrial corridor. So China knows only business and that is win win situation for India which Pakistan not able to understand and think China is doing only for Pakistan.China foreign minister is in India to discuss next BRICS summit which will be held in GOA,India.

Amit Sharma Aug 14, 2016 09:29am

Sushma Ji, for Gods sake please concentrate on Indian controlled Kashmir where our forces are treating our Kashmiri people like animals. Modi policies have failed miserably.

The Ravian Aug 14, 2016 09:31am

Having good knowledge of India' aggression, China already invited Pak army to CPEC. So any bid to thwart it will meet its fate with immediate effect.

sandeep Aug 14, 2016 09:36am

good job sushmaji

Alam Aug 14, 2016 09:45am

India is upset over CPEC. this route is being used by both countries since long. What is the problem if same route becomes part of CPEC. India never thought of raising issue wiyh China before CPEC project was initiated. If India Pakistan relations are improved, India can also benifit from CPEC.Pakisran never objected why India is allowing foreign tourists to IHK.

Ali Raza-Brisbane Aug 14, 2016 09:56am

Thank you for raising the issue with the Chinese.

So Kashmir is disputed, so we can also raise it.

Karachitee Aug 14, 2016 10:07am

So now it clear who is against CPEC.

KH Aug 14, 2016 10:11am

Yes, India has a govt today that has clear vision, strategy and program.

Maqsood Aug 14, 2016 10:28am

India never wants Pakistan to develop.

Zealot Aug 14, 2016 10:38am

So india call AJK as disputed territory and declares her own IOK as integral part.......and we want to talk with a country initiating her own version of dialogues and own version of peace and own version of terrorism...Mr Aziz you really want to talk with such a country....but i would advise you to learn some self respect

Shah Saab Aug 14, 2016 10:58am

All the more reasons to settle the Kashmir dispute as suggested by UNSC. Now Indians will have to live with whatever developments takes place in disputed territory. It is Pakistan whose territory is being developed and not China, so talk to Pakistan on the issue. Nevertheless a hollow argument from India to non relevant party.

global citizen Aug 14, 2016 11:01am

CPEC passes through GB and not Azad Kashmir. INDIA has to stop her imperialistic demands, enough is enough.

Sarwar, USA. Aug 14, 2016 11:42am

Now there is doubt who is behind unrest in Baluchistan. India will never sit quite on CPEC , will stop Pakistan waters and create unrest in Karachi. Pakistan should directly help Kashmiris to counter this otherwise shamefully India will claim whole Pakistan as his???

Bokhari Aug 14, 2016 11:47am

@global citizen ......In either case before raising the question they must settle the issue of disputed territory with the other party that happens to be Pakistan in this case. China does not figure out anywhere in this dispute since there are other proposed users of CPEC too other than China.

Kamal Pasha. Aug 14, 2016 01:23pm

Why should China listen to India when India herself is interfering in South China seas against China. Those days are gone long ago when it was Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai. India should have stayed with China but went to Russia.

Dr. Salaria, Aamir Ahmad Aug 14, 2016 01:35pm

Extreme height of double standards. On one side the Indian Army equipped with huge stockpiles of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons in its arsenal is ruthlessly killing the hapless and helpless civilian population in Jammu and Kashmir and on the other hand, it is dying to become permanent member of the U.N. security council and begging China to support it in its expansionist policies in South Asia. What a serious joke?

Pakistan zinda bad Aug 14, 2016 02:07pm

Hindustan cant bear peace in karachi. How it can digest cpec in pakistan.

M.Jamal Aug 14, 2016 02:10pm

India must act soberly as big brother if it want respect.USSR was a even a super power but finally it ended as Russia. The world is changing and there can't be an imperialist country for long.

Talha Aug 14, 2016 03:07pm

It is clear India is against Pakistan and its prosperity throyfh CPEC. First India stirs unrest in Balochistan through terrorism and now is trying to pressurize the Chinese. No matter what India does China and Pakistan would be friends forever, CPEC would become a reality, Pakistan would prosper and destroy any plots to our national security.

Rehan Aug 14, 2016 03:37pm

Why is India so obsessed with CPEC ?

Lafanga Aug 14, 2016 04:15pm

So India is bothered by any economic pact between China and Pakistan yet they dont want Pakistan to be bothered by any pact between India and Iran or Afghanistan. Hypocrisy at its highest.

Lafanga Aug 14, 2016 05:28pm

@Rehan They are not obsessed with just CPEC. They dont want Pakistan to progress economically and they want Pakistan isolated at all levels in the world. This is their main goal and policy and they will emply all tactics to achieve this including terrorism.

Sachin Aug 14, 2016 06:41pm

India wishes best to Pakistan on CPEC. Objecting on cpec to chinese is mainly bcoz china objects to every activity that India does in Arunachal Pradesh. Since cpex ia through GB and as a matter of record, India has to object. Its an international norm to file objection. There is no other material heart or mind in the objection. Plz continue

pakistani.. Aug 14, 2016 06:58pm

lets all of us indians pakistanis afghanis chinese work towards making our region peaceful and rich like western europe and be good friends with each other.. peace to every1 out there

Houlbelat Aug 14, 2016 07:48pm

It needs to be appreciated that, the current part of CPEC is entirely located in the settled areas of Pakistan and essentially is an extension of existing China-Pakistan Silk Road completed in 1976. Its importance to China is evident from its inclusion in China's current development plan.

BooHoo Aug 14, 2016 10:16pm

The whole world is awaiting the completion of CPEC in 2030. It will revive the global economy. Its importance is judged by the excited in the global economists community.

S P Das Aug 14, 2016 10:54pm

@Zak Have you read the entire UN resolution between the lines?

Manish,Delhi Aug 14, 2016 11:50pm

India minister didn't go to China,it is China who came to India for talks. After the south China verdict the China is feeling extreme heat from Japan, neighbouring countries and USA. The they are worried about India stance on south China Sea as it will increase there problems more.Though India is not directly connected with issue but India will not let this opportunity to bring China on talking terms at submissive manner.

dhanesh Aug 15, 2016 12:45am

Why india and chinese ministers are often meeting with each other? Something serious going under the pipeline.

Ranbir Aug 15, 2016 01:06am

@Zak you keep on harping about UNSC resolution 47. If this resolution is followed to the letter, do you realize that Step 2 involves Indian troops and tanks crossing the LoC to AJK and GB for peace keeping operations to ensure that conditions are right for the plebiscite to take place?

Truth Aug 15, 2016 02:02am

Now China can't oppose Indian Ventures in South China Sea for oil

Zik Aug 15, 2016 02:26am

The largest democracy meets the largest dictatorship to make peace. Kudos.

Krishna Aug 15, 2016 05:08am

@Akbar likewise

Dr. Ramesh Sharma Aug 15, 2016 05:15am

@BooHoo Please share with us who in the world except Pakistan and China are excited. Maybe I am missing something.

Dr. Ramesh Sharma Aug 15, 2016 05:18am

@pakistani.. I fully agree with you but for this to happen countries of the region have to stop proxy wars in each others country.

Chacha Jee Aug 15, 2016 05:40am

Chinese know they are getting into very messy, chaotic situation based on religious divide. But, Chiease do not go far to antagonize Indians in India and in western countries and in USA and start bycotting Chinese products. Indians especially in USA and UK do have consumer weight. Bottom line, China to offer NSG to buy peace.

Vorshal Aug 15, 2016 05:43am

@supe-duper Will you spend one billion Pak rupees if you think your investment may go sour?

Guru Aug 15, 2016 09:32am

Chinese FM was in India to ask India not to join the rest of G20 in condemning China on South China Sea. India turned the screws back, returning the favour for NSG episode created by China. And in the process dragged in bargaining chips like CPEC, Masood Azhar etc. Good strategy by India to pin down China with discussion points, time the Chinese felt some heat as well.

Zaraq Aug 15, 2016 09:59am

Why cant INDIA leave us alone and see us develop ?

Abxz Aug 15, 2016 11:29am

@pakistani.. Tell that to your government

Truth Aug 15, 2016 11:37am

CPEC is not good for pakistan...

Asif Mir Aug 15, 2016 01:58pm

@Zaraq I don't think that the issue is about Pakistan's development. The issue is more about CPEC going through disputed territories.

True Indian Aug 15, 2016 02:26pm

@Parachinari This will disproportionately help China than Pakistan as Chinese goods are cheap and will be flooded in Pakistan Market. but Pakistani goods will find it very difficult to capture Chinese Market as when world finds it difficult to compete with cheap chinese goods and impose anti dumping clause against China, Pakistan even will find it difficult to use this provision against China or else will risk antagonising China. In any way, Pakistan can be looser. Trade can be beneficial between two equal partners but there is no comparison between China and pakistan as far as Trade and Commerce is concerned between the two.

Adnan Anwar Aug 15, 2016 08:01pm

Gilgit , Baltistan , Hunza and Skardu area were never part of Kashmir. The people of those areas were never Kashmiri's and have links with Kashmir.

sbk Aug 15, 2016 08:30pm

@Ali Raza-Brisbane , But, in a disputed territory, how can China proceed with construction of CPEC?

dev Aug 15, 2016 09:51pm

@Rehan because it passes through our territory.

dev Aug 15, 2016 09:57pm

@Adnan Anwar The term Kashmir do not necessarily mean just Kashmir, it means the whole area of the state of Jammu and Kashmir princely state including Nothern Areas (Gigit, Baltistan,Hunza and Skardu ) Jammu, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh as it existed at the time of Independence .

SAEED KHAN Aug 15, 2016 10:31pm

CPEC IS PAKISTAns internal affair who the hell foreign minister of india to question it

Payal Verma Aug 16, 2016 01:44am

@Desi Dimag every country first look into the self vested interest more. We are sure China first will take heed of her interest and less into CPEC. Maybe she will keep wait and watch play for CPEC till next govent get elected.

Payal Verma Aug 16, 2016 01:47am

@سے Shaam (Hanafi) well the magic wand is into India's hands. India must deliberate and guard each step before any decision on China. China -Pakistan allies are untrustworthy to India and rest of the world.

Payal Verma Aug 16, 2016 01:56am

@supe-duper well you never know what can happen next moment.

Lakhkar Khan Aug 16, 2016 02:34am

@sandeep

Requested made by India Request refused by China

Good job China.

Payal Verma Aug 16, 2016 03:10am

@Guru Well done India! We are proud of you! Bharat Mata Ki Jai!

Qamar Aug 16, 2016 09:12am

Shushma and it's party is out of mind. cPEC is totally a Pakistan affair. And this tells the story that why India is involved in Baluchistan. It is clear thT India is working for US, Afghanistan and Iran. They do not want, asamatteroffact US does not want China to enter Arabian Sea through Pakistan. That is why Us ties are strengthening with India and Iran

anil sahu Aug 16, 2016 09:44am

@Kamal Pasha. china needs india more thn india needs china

AQ Aug 16, 2016 11:23am

How negative mentality they have. Cant see development in neighbors. India has Pathetic government and president such unethical tactics clearly shows that India does not believe in human values of equality. All such acts and talks india do to prove they promote equality are just for show.

the Fake ZAK Aug 16, 2016 02:46pm

@SAEED KHAN - Gilgit Baltistan is not a part of pakistan's constitution. It is a disputed area and per pakistan it is a part of overall J&K dispute. ....for CPEC to happen China wants Pak to give GB constitutional status......and if pakistan gives GB constitutional status then that means betraying people of J&K
