JHANG: Light vehicles traffic remains suspended on Jhang-Sargodha road since Tuesday evening as flood water from Chenab is flowing over the road in a 5km stretch between Patowana stop and Pakywala village.

The knee-deep water has made it impossible for cars, wagons and other forms of light traffic to cross it.

Some 30 to 40 villages along with either bank of the river have been inundated near Chund Bhrawana. Their population has left their houses along with their cattle and moveable valuables.

Inhabitants of the affected villages are compelled to take refuge at the houses of their relatives living in other villages as the district administration has failed to accommodate them or give them temporary shelter at relief camps.

Though the district administration claims to have established eight flood relief camps, they have reportedly failed to attract affected people as they are devoid of essential ingredients such as cattle fodder, clean drinking water and medicine.
