KARACHI: Fast-bowler Junaid Khan resented his exclusion from the One-Day International (ODI) squad against Ireland and England, saying he is left with no other option but to consider playing for England.
“I have no option but to consider playing for England now,” said a dejected Junaid while talking exclusively to DawnNews on Tuesday.
“Half of my family resides in England, but I kept Pakistan as my priority. I had the opportunity to play for England in 2013 after my outstanding performances in County cricket, but I rejected it,” said the left-arm quick.

Junaid, who last played one-day cricket in May 2015 during Zimbabwe’s tour of Pakistan, was ruled out of the probable line-up for the England tour in June after he was declared unfit by chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.
But the 26-year-old refuted the verdict and said that he was a part of the military’s boot camp in Kakul, which according to him “spoke volumes of [his] fitness”.
“I bowled outstanding spells in my last practice game. I returned figures of one for 22 in seven overs,” Junaid said. “I was told to prove my fitness and I am 100 per cent fit.”

Dont be too hasty, looking at the bowling options, Pak has better players then junaid at this stage. No disrespect to Junaid, keep working hard and make a comeback. Given how Aamir, Yasir, Rahat, Wahab and Sohail have bowled, they have won their places on the tour, and the addition of Gul only strengthens their case.

I think his best bowling figures are when he bowled in tandem with Mohammad Irfan.
Irfan worked the batsmen from one end--and Junaid got the wickets from the other end, because the batsmen took him easier to play after the pressure applied by Irfan.

If I was the selector I would make sure he never gets selected again...being not selected aside you don't just go on a news platform n say you want to play for another country ...that's betrayal n any one who is remotely patriotic would agree ...
Keeping in mind England have better fast bowlers have him and also even if you are a British national you have to be residing in the country for 3 years not just a county season..

According to the report in the last local practice match he bowled 7 overs and in that game he got one wicket in his whole spell. That was a practice match. So is he ready for international circuit?. Also his bowling speed is now around 80 and is constantly declining. He is no longer a fast bowler. He should be categorized as Medium fast bowler.

In 22 tests you have taken 71 wickets (less then 4 per test). For a self proclaimed great bowler 22 tests i.e. 44 innings are more than enough. You are not doing Pakistan a favour by playing for it. Go and play for England by all means if you can however looking at your record you are only good enough for county cricket.

Actually Inzi is worse selector than Haroon rashid. Whole the nation wanted Hafeez out of the test squad and replaced by Baber Azam. Every one knew that Junaid Khan would be a much better suit to English wickets than say Imran. Even if you look at Junaid's figures before his injury, he is a far far better bowler than Rahat and Wahab.

Highly disappointed by the selectors for ignoring such great talented cricketer like him and others.
Junaid is one of the best bowler I have ever seen in my life. I accept that his recent international games were not of that level because of majority being on dull pitches but he for surely would have performed the best than any quick in the squad on such pitches like in England, which favour him a lot.
Another blunder the selectors are making is the constant inclusion of Muhammad Hafeez and Younis Khan, these two are nothing but worthless players now.
When cricketers get out of their form in other top teams, they are left behind quickly without any hesitation. But here... totally opposite.

Good riddance, very overrated. One or two good series' don't make you a star. He is a good bowler but modern day cricket is a graveyard of so many good bowlers. I could put a huge list of much better Pakistani bowlers here, starting with Irfan, Anwar Ali, Aizaz Cheema, Tanvir Ahmed, Sohail Tanvir etc etc. They have all individually won us the games, but are they the equivalent of Waqar, Wasim or Imran, I don't think so. Even Umar Gul with his prolific death bowling skills is sitting out of team at the moment. Form means everything, the team already has too many passengers.

Instead of working hard on his bowling and waiting for his chances he's taken the option, so often taken by our cricketers, of blaming others for his own failings. This is sad, really. We have all seen him send down gun barrel straight balls around low 130's when he last played. He had a chance to impress the selectors in the PSL but failed. There were at least 3 better young fast bowlers in that tournament.

Please don't talk about Hafeez here, he is playing as night watchman in the current test team. This was the best strategy applied by Aussies in 1936 series, when they selected an ordinary batsman in the side to make fool other bowlers and waste the time in the pitch. If Hafeez stayed in the pitch and wasted 100 more deliveries then third test match would be draw.

Lets be honest we have three high quality southpaws selecting one more outstanding talent may not help teams balance. Just batters Left and right hand combination is lethal similarly in bowling left and right are more dangerous. chances for youngsters to succeed in Pakistan. PCB officials, selectors, and even
some of the senior players doesn't want to
help and encourage new comers. In fact Pakistan is the only country where talent
is deliberately suppressed by incompetent and selfish people. Fawad Alam, Hammad Azam, Baber Azam, Haris Sohail sre good examples. Look at England, how they have boomed Moeen Ali and Rashid Latif in recent years. Similarly take the example of South Africa and Australia, how the make Imran Tahir and USMAN Khawaja superstar within a short period.

Wahab Riaz is an ordinary bowler who got lot of chances due to family influence and even Aamir's recent form does not merit him place in the team, whereas we have Muhammad Hafeez on top of these two, who is playing from ages and even Sohail Khan can score more runs than him if he opens the inning.

@50 Shades of Khaki Pakistan's greatest Wasim Akram has 414 wickets from 104 test and Indias most recent great Zaheer on which they heavily depended on both test and odi to spearhead the attack in the latter half of his career has 311 wickets from 92; both lest than 4 wickets per match. Even James Anderson and Dale Styne have better record then these two. Even Shaun Pollock has better record than these two. So your stats are of no worth. Even if we consider your stats and he manages to play 100 test like all the above names he will still end up bagging 350 or plus wickets assuming he gets better more matured and experienced as he plays like all other named here. He never said he was great he is just asking for a chance and they are doing the same with him as Fawad alam and what they did with Asim kamal.

@Mehmood - you Pakistanis are definitely ungrateful. Rahat ali is a classic bowler and always on the line. If he had not got the breakthrough in lords 2nd innings, Pakistan would not even have won that match. Even in the next two games, his catches have been dropped. If the players took those catches, May be Pakistan would not have lost the old Trafford test. Also, he stood there with Sohail Khan for 10 wicket do ages, and we almost had hope that the match may get drawn. Please give these players their due credit.

He is a good bowler behooves me how he is not getting selected, although I have to admit, he has not done justice to his potential, like the rest of the Pakistan lot though he is no reverse swinger so that cannot be the reason he was left out. Just wondering where the reverse swing skills have gone in our line up? England seem to have mastered it, we paid a heavy price for it.

Rahat and Sohail in my opinion are useless bowlers....Same goes for Gul and Wahab they are past their sell by date...its time to mould a new breed of bowlers...he would make a good opening partner with Amir...with Tabish Khan as first change and possibly a all rounder and YASIR SHAH. Pakistan need at least 5 front line seemers and 2 top class spinners in the squad to be played according to conditions.
Also YOunis Khan needs to go along with Hafeez. Hafeez needs to bat at 7.

I would say Junaid at least deserves one series if we can give away so many to Wahab, Rahat, Imran Khan and even Sohail Khan. They are all proved mediocre at best. What did Wahab do performance wise after becoming famous for his one spell against Australia? in which actually Australia succeeded by all means and Wahab's directionless bowling was a complete waste for taking wickets. Playing or not for England, is a different journey altogether...when people like Saqlain never able to represent England, Junaid Khan is pretty ordinary bowler...and should not talk like he has a reserved place in English team...show some performance and fitness rather than big talk.

Look at the history of the game - the ones who go on to play say 100 tests perform incredibly well during their first 50-60 tests and then with age and fitness catching up they usually start going down ending up with still respectable bowling or batting averages. Junaid has played 22 tests and he by no means has proven himself 'indispensable'. He is asking for another chance? Are 22 tests not enough?

I as a Pakistan fan don't like his statement but look at this from his angle here is the man who lead the attack for 5 years on dead pitched and won us matches he was in category A in 2014 and what happens he gets injured and the pcb gets him out of central contract that's right not even in category c even after the recovery . He has been fit for more than a year and he is not getting his chance on other hand their is amir who after 5 years of absences comes in played 3 first class gets selected for national side.. That's absurd the man who has played only 3 first class in 6 years gets prefered over a guy who has played 22 test and 100 odi and t20s

So now we have Muhammad Amir, Irfan, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanveer, Rahat Ali , Junaid Khan and Sadaf Hussain- Seven left arm fast bowlers. Imran Khan, Sohail Khan, Umar Gul, Hassan Ali 4 right arm quicks. PCB should select all of them in one team.

one of my favorite bowler "Junaid Khan". I really like him and I also remember him when he trouble virat kohli. No doubt he is better than Wahab. He should be in team. Don't know why he is out. If he moves to England, great lose for pakistan. Best of luck to junaid khan from India

Its pretty funny - a pertinent question here would be "With so much bowling talent, and also many of them who can also bat decently like Woakes etc, does England need someone like Junaid Khan ?"

PCB has to adopt a fair policy, preferring Amer over Junaid has to be digested by all involved or anticipated, on such grounds that the fairness of cricket has been eroded and devoured by the certain ICC-Backed governing bodies. So Jundaid is right dejected and disappointed, He should fight for the justice that is hard enough to get as a right rather securing it through influence.

Wahab is completely spent and has nothing to offer the team. Rahat at best is a support bowler and to be honest Amir hasn't exactly set the world on fire since his return. I think there is every opportunity to be selected again. Work on your fitness, fielding and also improve your batting. We still do not have a genuine all rounder so a bowler who can add 10-15 runs and save 5-10 runs in the field is worth gold.

Inzamam was himself an outcome of favoritism. He would select only his favorites now.
As far as Junaid is concerned, Inzamam must be judging him on his own standards of fitness. He was never fit himself in his days

Go for it Junaid, playing for England you will prove your fitness against Pakistan.
Politics in Pakistan sports has brought down each and single games we used to be good.
Few already proving themselves in South Africa, Austrailia, England so why not. Its a professional sport, if you keep getting rejected and a silly batsman professor keep getting selected then its all down to politics not the skills.

Only 1 question! Why is Hafeez is even in the England tour??? He never attended the military camp for fitness, there were talks about him not being fit, he scored 0 and 2 and he never learns from his mistakes! Is Inzamam coming under the influence of someone in PCB board

Thank you Junaid Bhai. You had your chances to play for pakistan and we have all seen how you performed. Pretty Ordinary really. Pakistan now has enough fast bowling talent. You are welcome to go and play county for the rest of your life. You are dreaming that England will ever invite you to join their national squad. In the presence of Anderson, Broad, Woakes, Finn>...Seriously Junaid do you realistically think England will ever bother with you?
