LAHORE: Two days after alleging that personnel in Maryam Nawaz's protocol had harassed her family, Imran Khan's sister, Dr Uzma Khan has formally apologised to the prime minister's daughter.

In a letter addressed to Maryam Nawaz, Dr Uzma Khan claimed that the accusation was the result of misinformation as she was told at the time the protocol vehicle belonged to the premier's daughter.

She added the man who told her it was Maryam's protocol was Asim Gujjar, who was not known to her at the time of the incident.

"The fact that he had the audacity to take the name of PM's daughter, I could not imagine that he would be lying. Therefore please accept my apologies as I took the word of Mr. Gujjar as the truth in my extreme state of trauma," read the letter undersigned by Dr Uzma Khan.

Uzma on Friday claimed that her family was harassed by Maryam Nawaz's protocol when they were on their way to Friday prayers in the Gulberg-III area of Lahore.

Imran Khan, who was in Karachi at that time, also lambasted the premier's daughter after hearing about the incident and asked as to on what pretext was Maryam running affairs of the government and has protocol vehicles assigned.

Maryam Nawaz was quick to deny her claim and maintained that she was in Islamabad when the incident occurred. She expressed her anger by saying that "liars should have some shame at least in Ramadan."

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari's close aide, Asim Gujjar later told media that the protocol belonged to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Yaqoob, who arrived at his house to condole the death of his mother.
