DADU, Nov 23: Residents of the city held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday against the collapse of water supply, drainage and sewerage systems.

They raised slogans against the taluka municipal administration for failing to restore the civic amenities.

The drainage, water supply and sewerage systems of Gharibabad, Shahani, Mazdoorabad, Pir Bux, Chhano Shahabad and Soorjabad-I, II, III and IV are not working for the last five days.

Drains on the main roads and streets are overflowing and heaps of garbage are lying at different places of the city.

The protesters demanded that the systems should be improved.

ARRESTED: The Rukkan police raided the Autaq of a landlord in Phulji on Saturday and arrested Sajan, Qasim, Shaukat, Hafeez and Irshad.

DEMO: A large number of people, including councillors and social workers, took out a procession in Sehwan on Saturday to protest against the police for not taking action against people running gambling and narcotics dens in the town.

Led by Ghulam Hussain Abro, Jan Siyal and Haji Yaqoob, the protesters also held a demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Abro alleged that the dens were operating in different localities of the town under police patronage.

He also accused Sehwan SHO Javed Ahmad Lakhair of receiving bribe from the criminals running the dens.

Mr Yaqoob said the residents had complained to higher police authorities but they had not taken any action against the SHO.

The protesters appealed to the RPO, Hyderabad range, Ghulam Mohammad Malkani, to take action against the SHO and root out the dens being run in the town.

BODY FOUND: The Bhan Saeedabad police found the body of a 70- year-old woman on the town bypass on Saturday.

The police handed over the body to the Edhi centre for burial.

KILLED: Twelve-year-old Abdul Jabbar was run over by a Dadu- bound passenger coach near the Moundar police checkpost on Friday.

The police impounded the vehicle whereas the driver escaped.

HUNGER STRIKE: A labourer, Ghulam Hyder Satti, observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Saturday to protest against a contractor, Ram Bhagat, for not paying his wages of one month.
