BAHAWALPUR: The board of directors of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Bahawalpur approved Rs128 million under the annual development programme (ADP) for 2016-17 in its annual meeting on Sunday.

The meeting, chaired by PHA chairperson MPA Shoaib Owaisi, also approved a number of schemes for development of a number of parks, the city’s entry and exit points and landscaping.

PHA Director General Dr Ehteshan Anwar, who is also the district coordination officer, informed the meeting that the city’s beautification plan would be undertaken under the public-private partnership and the private sector would be involved in the maintenance of the parks, roundabouts and greenbelts.

He said the PHA would setup two food streets at the cost of about Rs30m. One food street would be established in the Satellite Town while the location for the other would be selected by a two-member committee.

He said security at the Madr-i-Millat Park, Satellite Town, and Ladies Park in Model Town B would be beefed up with CCTV cameras and barbed wire.

Mr Anwar said the rates of the hoarding and signboards would be fixed by the PHA which would recruit more staff.

Deputy secretary housing Moazzam Jamil said one percent development budget of Bahawalpur city had been allocated for the development projects of the PHA.

The meeting was told that Rs36m would be spent on the beautification and landscaping projects from the Multan Chowk to Bahawalpur city and Azam Chowk while a children’s park and an adventure park would be set up with a sum of Rs30m each.
