GUJRAT: The Punjab government has approved carpeting of Gujrat-Dinga Road which will be completed in three phases whereas rehabilitation of some 35 kilometres of Kharian-Dinga Road is also on cards as both these roads are in a dilapidated condition.

This was stated by Sher Afgan Dinga, Jani Chak Union Council chairman and an aspirant for the PML-N ticket for the slot of Gujrat district council chairman, who called on Punjab government’s public affairs committee chairman MNA Hamza Shahbaz at his Lahore office the other day.

PML-N MPA Mian Tariq Mahmood was also present in the meeting.Sher Afgan told Dawn the provincial government had approved the construction and rehabilitation of the two roads connecting Dinga town with rest of the district. He said funds for the first phase of Gujrat-Dinga Road had been released.

He said carpeting of Kharian-Dinga Road had also been suggested, but for the time being rehabilitation of the dilapidated road was a must as it was being used by heavy traffic.

The matter of selecting a candidate for the Gujrat district council chairman slot was also discussed in the meeting. The ruling party has yet to decide this complicated issue as four out of the five candidates belong to the families of party lawmakers from Gujrat.
