LAHORE: Veteran politician Dr Mubashir Hasan says the deteriorating police system has failed to protect the common man as it is meant for only the high-ups and the well-to-do sections of society.

“There is no way to reform this system of the government. Pakistan’s troubles - economic, cultural, political and security - are tremendous. No steps can be taken to reform the system which was made by the British to loot and plunder India. This system has been adopted by our rulers because they are also keen to plunder Pakistan and take the wealth out of the country,” he told Dawn here on Saturday.

Dr Mubashir said to provide an alternate to this system, a group of intellectuals worked on it and made a report suggesting changes to the constitution and exercise in executive authority.

“It has also recommended high level of devolution and centralisation of power,” he said, adding this report is going to come out shortly.

Mubashir Hasan, I.A. Rehman, Hasan Jaffar Zaidi, Prof Sajjad Mir, Raza Ali, Khalid Mahboob, Saroop Ejaz, Yaqoob Bangash, Najamul Sehar Attaullah and Mian Nasir Mahmood are the members of the group which was formed about two years ago.
