ISLAMABAD: Two persons who tried to rob a senior official in the guise of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials were arrested while their colleague managed to escape, police said here on Wednesday.

Earlier, a senior officer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Irrigation Department Haji Akramullah Khan, lodged a complaint with the Aabpara police stating that he had been receiving calls from an official introducing himself as a senior officer of NAB.

The caller told him that a complaint had been received against him in NAB, the complainant stated adding that “he demanded Rs30million from me to quash the complaint.”

The caller also told him that other officers of the authority were also with him, it added.

Later, Mr Khan met him on three different occasions, the complaint stated, adding that on February 16 the caller sought another meeting at Melody Market where he met with three persons.

“Later I realised that there was no complaint against me at NAB and these people were blackmailing him by using the name of NAB,” the complainant stated.

In response of the complaint a case was registered against the three persons under PPCs 419 and 420.

Mr Khan was found reluctant to talk over the issue and replied: “I have lodged separate complaints with police and NAB and you should contact them for details.”

He confirmed that the caller used official number to blackmail him by using the name of NAB, but showed ignorance about the identification of the number. Besides, he also confirmed that he was a senior officer of KP.

Investigating officer of the case ASI Mohammad Iqbal when contacted said that “Two accused were arrested and sent to jail on judicial remand while another was still at large.”

When asked about the identification of the official number mentioned by the complainant in his complaint and also reproduced in the FIR, the IO tied his lips over it.
