OKARA: The district police claim to have shown relatively good performance in 2015 as compared to last year.

District Police Officer Muhammad Faisal Rana said during 2015, as many as 46 criminals involved in murder, dacoity and terrorism were shot dead. Sixty-seven gangs were bused and recoveries of vehicles, motorcycles, cell phones, cattle, and other valuables made.

He said 5,738 proclaimed offenders, including murderers, top-10 and top-20 outlaws, were arrested. As many as 1,983 court absconders, including Rustam Ali, having Rs0.5 million head money, were arrested.

The DPO said 1,520 cases of possessing illegal arms were registered and 45 Kalashnikovs, 99 rifles, 205 guns, 1,066 revolvers/pistols, 114 carbines and 7,135 bullets seized. He said 1,498 cases of narcotics were registered and 7-kg heroin, 430-kg charas, 13-kg opium, 28,087 bottles of liquor were recovered and 145 distilleries unearthed.

He said as per the National Action Plan, 297 cases under Amplifier Act, 15 cases under sectarian and hate literature, 24 cases for wall chalking and 1,498 cases of exhibition of arms were registered. He said two blind murder cases were traced and criminals involved in the incidents arrested. He said police traced eight cases of murder robbery.

The DPO said in comparison to 2014, 83 less cases of murder, 139 attempt to murder, 54 cases of abduction, 129 highway robbery, 69 cases of dacoity, 430 cases of cattle lifting and 155 less cases of theft were registered.
