GUJRAT: Women’s chess players from the universities across the country will be vying for top honours here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) in the “Third Inter-Varsity Women Chess Champion 2015-16” opening here on Saturday (today).

The Higher Education Commission-sponsored tournament is being organised by the UoG’s Directorate of Sports.

“Chess teams from nine universities, including the UoG, are participating in the championship,” UoG Director Sports Ikhlaq Ahmad Khan said, adding that the teams and officials had started arriving at UoG and all the team managers would be meeting before the opening of the tournament to discuss rules and regulations.

Teams from the Iqra University Karachi, Lahore College for Women University, Karachi University, Punjab University, Islamia University Bahawalpur, University for Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, University of Sargodha, Imperial College University and the UoG will participate in the championship.
