JF-17 finds buyer at Dubai show: report

BEIJING: The JF-17 fighter, jointly developed by China and Pakistan, notched its first sale at the Dubai Air Show and may receive additional orders in the future, the China Daily said on Wednesday, citing a Chinese executive.
Aviation Industry Corp of China (Avic) and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex closed the deal with an unidentified buyer at the air show, the newspaper said, citing an Avic statement. It did not say when the contract was signed or how many jets were sold.
“Several potential buyers have expressed to us their strong intention of introducing the aircraft,” Liu Yu, deputy head of Avic’s military aircraft sales division, was quoted as saying.

China’s weapons exports jumped 143 per cent in the five years to 2014 compared to the previous five-year period, but still only account for about 5pc of the global arms market.

Why cant the buyers be named? There was one earlier this year as well, and now JF-17 has a second buyer. I believe that bot Pakistan and China should disclose the name of their customers for the aircraft, rather than keep it a secret.

@Hashim The buyers are not named to avoid pressure from certain unfriendly countries on the potential buyers that can derail the deal before all modalities have been worked out.

Pakistan and China are becoming Jet export countries. JF-17 is an ideal choice for poor countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Some big players must be very unhappy and nervous. You are taking a piece of pie.
Be careful and don't reveal the name of buyers until you are ready to deliver the product.

Joint development sounds great .. but as I recall Pakistan recently placed an order with China for 100+ of these aircraft and still hasn't identified the "buyer" touted last year.

Folks it is very normal, rather a norm, in defense deals to keep them concealed till maturity, thought nor always. and it is specially true about new weapons. On top of it there are many enemies of this project, with their own different reasons, who will like to sabotage. So, it is good to keep the deals 'unidentified' till ...

The buyers are most probably Myanmar and Sri Lanka with some other nations as well. The names are not disclosed for obvious reasons. It will finally be disclosed at an appropriate time.

Come on guys, be realistic and practical. in our daily life we use to avoid sharing lots of information until the deal is finally signed. Ofcourse if you disclose, there is a high risk of loosing it as existing Giants/cartel of heavy weapons would strong oppose any new-comer stealing their piece of loaf. they will def. offer them their product at through away price just to keep the new comer out.

I am just trying to remember, how many times we were told about 'unidentified buyers' and 'undisclosed number of jets', yet Pakistan remain the only country operating this aircraft, and despite that this is supposed to be an ingenious production, we keep getting completely built unit from China and assemble in Kamra. Some one in PAF and defence production is not doing their job !!!!

It is not a commodity to be sold in Super Markets just for a few dollars. It is not something to be sold on counter for cash payment on spot. Again, it is not something requiring a vast campaign of advertisement for marketing . Of course, it involves billions of dollars and a deal so big is not reached until both buyer and seller are satisfied. Only some time is needed and then the nation will see the results.

This plane is not within the same bracket but it is several times more economical and offers excellent value for money and that is what is selling

I disagree with you, brother. The comments from across the border are the best indication of how much this news aggravates those people whose lives depend on hatred of Pakistan.
These hindustanis are quite happy to ignore the news that Delhi is sniffing around to import drones from the US because they're too incompetent to manufacture their own, but they swarm onto this article to express their rage at Pakistan's export potential. We can see for ourselves how secure and confident they are as a nation...:)
