KHAR: Security forces claimed on Tuesday to have repulsed an attack on their checkpost in the border area of Mamond tehsil in Bajaur Agency by militants from Afghanistan’s Kunar province.

Security officials said that a group of heavily armed militants attacked the check-post in Ghakhi area.

They fired several rounds of mortars.

Soldiers deployed at the post fired back and forced the militants to retreat.

Later, security forces, along with local people and members of a peace committee, took action to trace the attackers but they had escaped by that time.

It was the fourth cross-border attack on Pakistani posts in the agency over the past five weeks.
