RAWALPINDI: Pakistan has severed all relations with Malaysia. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Kuala Lumpur has been recalled and the Malaysian Government given time to wind up its High Commission in Pakistan.

Disclosing this at his Press conference this evening [Oct 5], the Foreign Minister, Mr Z.A. Bhutto, said ties with Kuala Lumpur were severed because the Malaysian Government took an “immoral position” on the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, chose to undermine Afro-Asian solidarity, and violated the principles of morality and justice. An Aide Memoire on Pakistan’s decision to sever ties was handed over to the Malaysian Envoy today at 4-30 p.m.

[Agencies add] the Acting High Commissioner for Malaysia in Pakistan was called in at the Foreign Office in Karachi this afternoon and informed of the decision of the Government of Pakistan to sever diplomatic relations with Malaysia.

The missions in both the countries have been asked to wind up their affairs within three weeks. The Pakistan High Commissioner in Malaysia, Mr S.M. Hasan, who had been called to Rawalpindi for consultations is not going back to his post, he announced. Mr Hasan was present at the Press conference.
