ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani raised the issue of dead and missing Pakistani pilgrims in Mina stampede during his meeting with Saudi Ambassador Abdullah Bin Marzouq Al-Zahrani on Friday.

The Senator expressed deep sense of grief over the tragic incident at Mina during Haj, especially for the Pakistani pilgrim victims who died or were injured or are still missing.

According to details, in his 40-minute meeting with the Saudi diplomat, Rabbani welcomed the ambassador and highlighted the deep rooted historical, cultural religious and strategic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Rabbani expressed faith and confidence that Saudi government would attend the issues of Pakistani pilgrims who are injured or missing on priority basis, and will also facilitate the families of victims who lost their lives in Mina stampede.

The Senate chairman while extending invitation to the head of Saudi Shoora to visit Pakistan as special guest to the country's Senate and stressed upon the need of such visits from parliamentarians and dignitaries from both sides.

Rabbani further proposed that the visit of Saudi Shoora head may be scheduled during the days when Senate of Pakistan is in session.

It is pertinent to mention here that that Rabbani has already written letters to the Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf and PM's adviser Sartaj Aziz to come and brief the Upper House over the Mina stampede and the issues faced by Pakistani pilgrims in the aftermath of the incident during the Senate session commencing on October 5.
