LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami emir Senator Sirajul Haq has urged the nation to rise above regional and ethnic differences and forge unity against the corrupt.

Talking to different delegations at Mansoora here on Wednesday, he alleged major political parties ruling the country turn by turn had been covering up each others corruption.

“The gang of plunderers has been misappropriating public money and transferring it to their personal bank accounts abroad. While their bank accounts multiplied with the passage of time, the plight of the common man worsened.”

Mr Haq said a handful of families were controlling the country’s politics and institutions. They issued party tickets to the blue-eyed candidates who mostly happened to be super rich. Such candidates, he said, had been winning elections using their money.

Saying the public had got disappointed with the prevailing election system, Mr Haq warned of “disturbances” if the Election Commission of Pakistan did not adopt an impartial and transparent electoral mechanism.

He urged the ECP to introduce drastic electoral reforms on priority.
