SIALKOT: Local council polls in Sialkot and Narowal will be held on Dec 3.

According to local Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officials, the number of the union councils (UCs) of the Sialkot Municipal Corporation is 24 while there are 124 UCs in Sialkot district. There are three municipal committees in the district -- Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur. Daska Municipal Committee has 30 wards, Sambrial 20 and Pasrur 26 wards.

There is no municipal corporation in Narowal district. According to Sialkot EC officials, there are 98 UCs in Narowal and 55 wards in three municipal committees. Narowal Municipal Committee has 25 wards, Zafarwal 11 and Shakargarh 19 wards.

According to the schedule, returning officers (ROs) will display public notices regarding the polls in both Sialkot and Narowal districts on Sept 28. Candidates will submit their nomination papers from Oct 3 to 7, and scrutiny of the papers will be held from Oct 8 to 13. Appeals against the acceptance and rejection of papers can be submitted till Oct 30. Candidate can withdraw their nomination papers till Nov 6.

The ROs will display the final lists of candidates on Nov 7 besides allotting electoral symbols to the candidates the same day.

ROOF COLLAPSE: A youth was killed and three others were injured when the roof of their room caved in in Chhichharwali village, Pasrur, on Wednesday.

Dawn learned Zeeshan Ali, Aamir Mughal, Chaand, Waqas and Aamir Husain were in the room when its roof fell on them. Aamir Mansha was retrieved dead.

Local people and Rescue 1122 officials pulled out Chaand, Waqas and Zeeshan from the debris and shifted them to the Pasrur Civil Hospital.

ELECTROCUTED: Two persons -- Muhammad Ilyas, 33, and Saqlain, 22, -- were electrocuted when live wires fell on them in a street in Daallowali village on Wednesday.

SNGPL: The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) has penalised with heavy fines to industrialists for gas pilferage.

According to Gujranwala SNGPL General Manager Faisal Tayyub, they fined Asa CNG Station, Daska, Rs120 million; Golden Ceramics, Gujranwala, Rs1.6 million; and Daska-based consumer Saeed Ahmed Rs. 5.5 million. Their gas connections have also been disconnected.

He added several others were also collectively fined Rs1 million in the region.

He said gas pilferage was a heinous crime and the accused involved in the practice would be brought to task.
