MQM appeals to establishment for clemency

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has appealed to the ‘establishment’ to forgo what it called the bitter past and grant it clemency like the general amnesty offered to the ‘angry Baloch’ people.
“Just as clemency is being announced for the estranged Baloch people, the establishment should also heal the wounds of Mohajirs by forgetting past bitterness,” the MQM coordination committee said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Referring to reports about certain workers who had gone to India over 20 years ago and who allegedly confessed to having been trained there, the MQM said that any worker who had gone to the neighbouring country for saving his life after the launching of the June 19, 1992, army operation “did so without informing the party”.
“The MQM has nothing to do with the training of the people who had gone to India.”
It said that the MQM was a patriotic political party and it would continue to be unconditionally loyal to Pakistan.
Party says ‘bitter past’ should be forgotten and wounds of Mohajirs should be healed
Explaining the reasons behind some of its workers deciding to go to India, the statement said that after the June 1992 operation against the MQM “thousands of workers were forced to go to different parts of the country for saving their lives”.
It said that some workers had also gone to the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, etc., where they sought asylum.
“Some went to India for saving their lives as they could not go to any other country. These MQM workers chose to go to India because they had family ties in India, and they thought that they would not face the hardship of homelessness and hunger.
“The workers who had gone to India for saving their lives did so without informing the MQM, and this cannot be called the policy of the MQM,” it said.
The MQM said it could not even think of any plan against the country.
The committee appealed to the establishment to review its policy on the basis of these facts and urged it to “stop isolating Mohajirs” from the mainstream.
About its appeal for general amnesty, the MQM said the establishment should heal the wounds of Mohajirs, forgetting the bitter past.
“Such a step would be in the interest of the nation and the country and the MQM will extend its fullest support to it,” the statement concluded.

I am not against clemency if MQM and its leadership accept every thing they did and promised not to do it again. A truth and reconciliation commission (Like in South Africa) should be formed and all MQM peoples should appear before the commission and admit every thing they did. Every thing must be verified and all who made an honest admission should be forgiven and others should be tried in court of law.

I have no idea that who gave the right to MQM to represent all migrants. Half of the migrants that came to the modern territory of Pakistan were Punjabis and Haryanavis and they do not identity themselves with the MQM identity. They integrated well and do not identify with the Muhajir identity. So it is my request to MQM to stop becoming a representative of the whole community of those people who migrated in the past.

MQM is wrong on many counts, but it's wrong to only blame them for playing ethnic card. When operation turned to PPP they started playing Sindh card, when the talk about action against Afghan Refugees was raised Pukhtoon politicians started playing their ethnic card, Nawaz Sharif has his own history of playing Jag Panjabi Jag card whenever convenient. From a neutral perspective, also rest of all political mafia in the country, irrespective of ethnic associations.

MQM started to protect the rights of a community in Karachi which have been wronged (quota system in jobs, being marginalized even though highly educated etc). However, once they tasted the blood of power, they become the monster that everyone else was - even using their organizational skills to enhance the impact of violence and be better than anyone else in being violent.

The nation demands to know the full truth. As per Saulat Mirza the party directed workers to go to India. MQM needs to become transparent on this issue before expecting any clemency.

@Saima Khan operation is not against MQM only , we daily hear about the clearing of Lyari Gangs , daily Taliban terroists are also caught taken care of, Suuni' Tehrek's Qadri has also been reigned In ... Dr Asim is from PPP .... so no mam its not MQM only ...its against all crimnal elements and accross the board ...thats why so much improvement in the law and order situation in Karachi ...

Lets talk about the root cause. Its the rampant racism that exist against krachites This is the core problem. This he reason MQM got created got supported and they get elected. Fix yourself else this issue will manifest itself in some other shape or form. Give people of karachi their rights and respect. You can never subjugate people and deprive of their rights. karachi is not a village where people are uneducated. they know your true intentions and know what is going on. People of krachi are true patriots their for fathers created Pakistan. They will be fine with cleaning up MQM but dont expect them to give up their rights.

its another drama or it will be made into one of many episode of MQM drama bazi,as a Karachite I am happy they are only refering to themselves and its workers but there are many sharing the same background with MQM workers but dont agree with MQM approach,they have really made a mess of this once wonderful city.
And once again for the first time v,rightly they are asking clemency for themselves but not for Karachite as they know who are Gunda and who are doing Gunda gardi,lets see how many hides do you collect this year?

Yesterday we heard from NAB that Bargaining Deals can be considered. Today we e are hearing of Clemency appeal from MQM.
These consideration if accepted will be a disaster with irreversible consequences for the national integrity and security.

@Rao The Punjabi Muhajirs left Punjab and settled in the same province just the country name changed so no big change for them. Infact they got freedom from Sikhs who were superior to them so it was a win win situation for them. For other muhajirs it was a complete change in all respects.
