SIALKOT: Prominent film actor Ali Ejaz has urged affluent local exporters to donate generously for his project to establish old homes.

The actor made this appeal while addressing a meeting of the business community at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Monday.

Ejaz said under the project ‘The Homes for the Welfare of the Old People’, he was establishing 132 old homes on 17.5 kanals at Gol village, Kala Khatai, near Ferozewala for the welfare of the elderly.

He said the estimated cost of the project was Rs300 million and it would be executed under his non-government organisation, Ali Ejaz Foundation.

He further said the project would be completed with donations from the public, traders, industrialists, exporters and philanthropists within three years.

Talking to the media, the actor stressed the need for making quality and vulgarity-free films, enabling families to watch them together. He said such films would also help bring people back to cinemas.

He said the classic and comedy films of his era were still relevant, as they focused on social norms, values and problems. Now, the film industry was in a dire need of advanced filmmaking technology with fresh and positive thoughts, views and ideas, besides making films to promote patriotism.

SCCI President Fazal Jilani, Senior Vice President Mir Alamgir Meyer and Vice President Malik Naseer Ahmed were also present on the occasion.

FUND: PPP stalwart and former information minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has established ‘Shuhada Welfare Fund’ to financially help families of victims of Indian shelling in border villages along the Working Boundary.

Talking to the media, she announced Rs1 million from her side for the fund. She urged local traders, industrialists, exporters, political and social organisations and philanthropists to donate generously for the welfare of families of the victims.
