Teenage 'suicide': Police find more letters in boy’s schoolbag

KARACHI: Police on Wednesday said they were examining handwritten letters of and drawings by the two teenage classmates who were found shot dead on Tuesday morning in a private school in Patel Para in Soldier Bazaar. They said they were treating it as a suicide case.
Sixteen-year-old Nauroz Hamidi killed his classmate Saba Fatima Bashir, 15, before shooting himself dead with the licensed pistol of her father on Tuesday morning, as the two had decided to end their lives after finding that their families were unhappy about their friendship.

“The teenage classmates apparently took this extreme action as they feared that they would not be allowed to marry outside their sect or caste,” said Jamshed SP Akhtar Farooq.
The boy belonged to the Ismaili community, added the officer.

The SP said the investigators found more handwritten letters and drawings in the bag of the boy, which indicated their extreme love for each other.
These letters also indicate that they had been planning this act for a long time. One of the drawings, prepared by the boy, shows their funeral prayers. The boy intended to commit suicide by taking some toxic chemicals, one of the letters shows. Another letter shows that they started liking each other just last year.
The officer said investigation showed that the girl brought the licensed pistol of her father in her bag and she later handed it over to him.
It emerged during the initial probe that the boy and the girl were introvert and tended to avoid mixing with other classmates. Besides, they had no interest in sports. The boy was not good in studies.
However, the SP said, as per the initial statement of their families the teenage classmates did not exhibit any unusual attitude. The girl’s family stated that on Tuesday night, Saba refused to eat dinner at home and insisted on having a burger.
Meanwhile, the school where the teenagers studied remained closed on Wednesday.

The girl's mother made up a false cover story about what happened. Beware. Sometimes teens commit suicide when they feel they can't talk to their parents. Our pride is not more important than our children. The girl's mother might have talked her through this but she thought her daughter was too young to have those feelings. "We are all human beings."

it is about time that the parents take more time to have more and frank communication with children specially the teenagers. In this society of hipocracy the parents need to support their children by having more frank communication so that such occurances can be avoided.
The scools need to play some role as well and the middle classes like 7th and 8th the teachers need to start discussions around social problems with the teenagers. I hope we can get the education system changed to reflect the problems of current times.
Can the Education Ministry take note as well as the NGO's working in the social sector to make an awareness compaign.

Just attraction not love and it was kid's mistake.... It is not easy to nurture infant. We are not western. We pay more attentions to our kids and sacrifice own wishes for our kids. Parents are always well wisher to their kids and I am quite sure things could be sorted. What they achieved by committing suicide?

It is so easy to comments as to who is right or wrong but the whole episode translates that parents do not need to act as conventional one and have to adapt with time and talk to their kids and also kids have to open up and discuss with parents social along with educational issue - this tragic loss is because we are rigid and do not communicate with each other; no matter how small the kids are they also carry emotional feeling.

This is a clear case of lack of communication between the parents and their children unfortunately in this age of 21st century still lot of parents want to brought up their children like they were brought up by their own parents in 50s and 60s this is called generation gap.
Moreover, majority of children in Pakistan are borne out of just natural desire not due to planned activity, which is the main cause of reluctance towards the children

I remember seeing similar type of scene from an sub-continental movie or drama just couple of months ago, where the boy first killed the girl and then killed himself. I don't know about this incident but these dramas and movies are full of such stories & I must say, they mostly show family fights, love stories, street fights and nothing productive. So parents must practice controlled access of children on TV, internet etc and they should give more and more time to their children so they don't feel a vacuum which outsider can fill very easily specifically at this age. Still as a parent I really feel sad for the parents, no matter what but all children are the life of their parents.

I think the non-existence of mentor in our education system is to blame such incidence. Some among us are fortunate to find some mentors within their family but most of us are not able to find any. Our most of youth have so many confusions in their mind do lack or sometime excessive information available through media. Here somebody should enter who can able to remove confusions and guide youngsters. Parents are either not interested due to their busy schedules or lack this ability. Our education system is only interested to earn profit, introduce expensive books etc.

Parents and teachers both sides are responsible for the unfortunate incident. They do not realize their responsibilties. Parents never ask childern about their activities in school and after school. They think that they have fulfill their responsibility by admitting them in top institute. Teachers and parents never recognize changes in them about behaviour and attitude. Last but not the least unchecked social media and tv media is responsible. Students are busy from 6 to 12 night on browsing face book and watching full of love affairs drama on tv. And in result incidents happen like this.

It is so sad. The students should take care their studies and build their future. Parents also has responsibility to watch their activities. Sometimes freedom push them to the wrong direction and this incident may a cause of the freedom.

At 15 you are too young to decide who to marry anyway. Further in Pakistan in reality no muslim, christian, Sikh or Hindu will allow their daughter to marry an Ismaili and that is just a fact, so what this child's parents said was probably what 99% of Pakistanis and 99.9% of Indians would have said.

Co-education, well done. Boy was Ismali, was the girl sunni muslim then she is not allowed to marry a non Muslim. Parents know it but they sent her to a co-education school and so is the result. Parents are responsible.

Lot of adults commenting like someone who never was in love as teenager. Age 14 to 18 is when love can make you blind. What we adults know as merely "attraction" is pure love in teenagers eyes. So talk to your kids. Be involved in their live. Have them know that they talk to you about anything without the fear of you getting upset.

Sometime i also think the same ( suicide ) because i am not really frank with my parents nor they are interested in me , i know they love me but i really dont care about their love if i cant share what i am feeling , i had problems an i still have because of them , yes they are the one to be blamed , at least the parents should give some time to their children ask them about the day etc etc ... But ... :(

Not really. Love is a many splendored, very strong all consuming open life enhancing emotion. It emerges, is reflected in a lifetime of affection, caring, respect, esteem, work, dedication, discipline and self sacrifice.
Love does not put a bullet in the brain of the beloved. Lust, hate, selfishness...often does.

@Ahmed if you feel your parents are not listening to you, please go and talk to your favourite teacher at school. Ask him/her to advise you or refer you to somebody who can be a listening ear to you. Don't suffer alone in silence. Perhaps an elder cousin or an aunt/uncle can help you.

In this case , love had just started and would have reached its potential if the kids knew they would get the support from their families and society. i am so surprised after reading the comments of pak's philosophers and sociologists,that even not a single man highlighted the issue of the problems of co-education in this particular society in the age of great sensitivity and whimsicality i.e (teen-age); the real ghost behind this incident
when people admit their adults in CO schools they must adjust themselves with the outcomes i.e puppy love, infatuation etc
