The rise in militant groups in the country is what gave birth to the idea of Paasban; creators Mustafa Hasnain, Gauhar Aftab and Yahya Ehsan decided to create a comic book series combating violent extremism.

The trio is obviously patriotic so it's no surprise that they have released a special Independence Day edition of the comic which is gaining notorious popularity fast.

“Paasban” — or “Guardian” — revolves around a group of close friends at college who begin to worry when one of them drops out to join a religious student group that is ostensibly working for charitable causes. Some in the group however, suspect it may have darker aims.

The art is inspired by Alphonse Mucha and Pakistani artist Abdur Rahman Chughtai, though the action is more in line with Western comics and Japanese Manga, according to creative director Ehsan.

The 14th August edition takes a trip down memory lane, reminding us of the trials and tribulations people had to face during partition. Fast forward into present times, you've got characters preparing for a school play based on Pakistan.
