CHITRAL: The flood-affected people accommodated in a camp in Mori Lusht area on Booni road have been facing various problems, including shortage of drinking water and food.

Talking to this correspondent here on Sunday, the affected people said that 40 families of their village had been displaced and rendered homeless when the flash floods caused destruction in their village.

One Ashraf Ali said that they had been facing severe shortage of drinking water as their camp was located at a distance of over five kilometers from the source of water situated at another village in Mori Lusht area.

He said that they had lost everything in the floods from their houses to fields of maize crop and vegetable and orchards of grapes, pomegranates, pear and peach. He said that their livelihood was badly affected as the agricultural produce was their only source of sustenance.

A member of Chitral tehsil council from the area, Abdul Qayum Shah, said that as the whole village had been covered by the muddy flood they had no alternative but to move to the camp.

He said that the relief goods being provided to them by the government were quite insufficient and did not fulfill their needs and daily requirements.

Koh Integrated Development Programme chairman Abdul Ghafar said that the tents were provided to the affected people by his organisation following the floods. He appealed to the World Food Organisation to rush to the rescue of the dislocated people of Mori Lusht and save them from starvation.

He said that the affected people could be provided with water only through transporting it from another village which was too costly.
