LAHORE: The election tribunal heard on Thursday a case of alleged rigging in NA-122 and turned down a request for a long adjournment put up by lawyers of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and sought final arguments from the speaker’s side on Aug 3.

Junior associates of Barrister Asjad Saeed appeared before the tribunal and stated that the senior counsel was out of the country.

They requested the tribunal to defer the hearing till Aug 22, but tribunal member Kazim Ali Malik refused to allow a long adjournment.

The tribunal observed that the case was at its final stage and could not be kept pending for long.

The tribunal fixed Aug 3 for next hearing and asked the counsel to come up with concluding arguments in cases of NA-122 and PP-143 as well.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan had challenged the victory of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and alleged massive rigging on part of the returned candidate.
