‘Hit man’ held in raid on MNA’s restaurant

KARACHI: The Rangers on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspect during a raid carried out on Thursday night on a Clifton restaurant owned by a Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmaker.

The paramilitary troops raided the restaurant of MQM MNA Syed Ali Raza Abidi and took into custody his cousin and some other persons. MQM chief Altaf Hussain condemned the raid and said that the Rangers action was aimed at stopping MNA Abidi from raising his voice against the injustices to his community.

A Rangers statement issued on Friday evening said that the raid was conducted on the restaurant on secret information.

“This restaurant was under observation for the last some days due to information about alleged activities of targeted killers there. In this successful action, a notorious targeted killer identified as Yameen alias AD was arrested,” it added.

The statement said that the suspect was allegedly involved in the killing of 10 people as well as robberies and “riots during strikes in the metropolis”.

However, the Rangers statement did not mention the suspect’s political affiliation or the owner of the restaurant.

Meanwhile, the MQM chief appealed to the Sindh High Court chief justice to take notice of the illegal actions of the Rangers.

He also asked the speaker of the national assembly to take notice of the “illegal” raid.

Political parties should let the law enforcement agencies perform their duties. If these people are innocent, they do not have anything to fear. Why are political parties, MQM in particular, against such operations. Rangers have acted on information that they had. Let the system work for a change without political influence.

So far so good. It is again right that no provocative announcement or preliminary judgement is made by the rangers against any political party or member parliament, with the job done as per the mandate. Now the next step is to bring the accused to the courts and get them convicted. This will culminate the process. Action also needs to be taken again the gun-totting private armies of our feudal lords who are the lord, judge and executioners in their regions and openly flout the writ of our nation.

@khan usa. I am sure the burning effect can be felt in usa and uk as well. Why doesnt the so called public leadership of mqm comes back frm uk and handles the affairs frm within pakistan. As a matter of fact crime rate has gone down..targetted killings have decreased...karachi is much better now...

The Rangers are doing excellent job in curtailing militancy in Karachi, I think peoples belonging to other parties & groups are also responsible for criminal activities in & around Karachi why then only MQM arrest & raids are reported, this is creating a confusion & more of impression that the raids are mostly directed towards MQM while others are less botheration to them. There are people having a private army with all type of deadly weapon roaming free. No news about Uzair Baloch appearing anywhere. Rangers have to clean the city with justice for all & not only a group.

The raid is not illegal. LEOs have the right to enter any place where they have information that a wanted person may be hiding. A restaurant is a public place, any one can walk in.

Lyari etc will be cleaned up too. It is better to restrict movements of criminals and then netting them gradually. Army can go in hot and likes of lyari will fall then too. Lyari etc are not like FATA and North Waziristan that major operation is required. One step at a time. Rangers and Army are not scared of these areas.
