Junaid Jamshed in hot water again over sexist remark. Social media responds

Vital Signs singer turned evangelist turned fashion designer Junaid Jamshed made yet another blunder this past week as he appeared on a TV show and stated that "God dislikes that any woman should be named [in the Quran]."

Cue furor: the internet blew up over the remark, calling it out for being misogynistic, irresponsible and just plain wrong.

Junaid Jamshed was in the spotlight last year when he was accused of making blasphemous remarks in one of his televised sermons.

This time, it appears that he felt he had to correct his mistake quickly, as he took to his Facebook page and issued a 'clarification. ' In the carefully edited video, he explains that he did not intend to offend or belittle women at all. He cites Quranic verses that relate the high stature of women.

However, he closes with the sexist remark: "A woman is a diamond. Diamonds are meant to be hidden."

Social media blew up over his statements, with several prominent figures jumping in.

Actually to put JJ and Amir Liaquat Hussain as scholars is academically wrong.They may be classified as good anchors with a zeal to flourish Islamic teachings. Sometimes they are successful sometimes they do blunders. It is the fault of our real scholars who innocently classed them as scholars. Both of them has commercial objectives.

Apart from this Controversy, it must be noted JJ is not an Scholar (Aalim), He is the Person who has Knowledge of Islam more then Average Pakistani people but it does not make him Aalim..My Sincere advise to JJ plz refrain yourself from coming on TV..

Another media war has started againgst junaid jamshed. JJ is again in hot waters .. I think its better not to speak than going of the cuff over these sensitive issues specially on national Tv. well, i dont know why the different channels are allowing him or any evangelist like him to deliver sermons according to the whims of their minds and interpretation. But pity on our media too.. they even dont do any responsible journalisim and becomes the party and give biased judgements instead of subduing the situation. JJ should think before giving statements like this, whatever he intended to say does not matter, if he is not careful with his words on the national Tv. As the saying goes " where ignorance is bliss, 'its folly to be wise."

The problem is now a days everyone is pretending to be an Islamic scholar, Dr. Who, AKA Dr. Amir liquat is a prime example. I respect Junaid and I like buying the stuff from his shops but I think Mr . Junaid, it's time that you should stop being an Islamic scholar and do something else. I think sewing cloths is much better and stop insulting women on every other occasion.

Why do the JJs, Amir Liaqats and scholars of our world focus on subjects like this? They should focus on the substance of our religion which is based on Forgiveness, Tolerance, Perseverance, Flexibility, Pursuit of education, Justice in society, Integrity and responsibilities of an individual to relatives, neighbors and to community at large. Focus on the substance will allow the people to apply the principles to their own lives for success and harmony

That's for sure that JJ needs to choose his words wisely while speaking on sensitive issues or don't talk about them at all but on the other hand it seems like the people who are more offended by him are the ones who think they are representing women appropriately and respectfully in the media. But whenever I try to watch the dramas and morning shows these days it tells a different story and said to see that how they are portraying Pakistani women to the world. Being modern doesn't mean to forget your values.

We don't come on primetime TV and give piety lectures and even if we say something repugnant on social media its not taken seriously. I am one of the biggest fans of the Vital Signs - but it is absolutely criminal what Junaid Jamshed is doing now! Why does no one speak out against this sexist Junaid Jamshed? Somebody must speak out against this! His music brought so much peace, love and harmony to Pakistani culture and society - it united the country - but since becoming a mullah he is spouting so much inequality against and towards women. There has to be an outcry against the nonsense he spouting about women can't do this in Islam, women can't do that it Islam! Yet he is making millions selling women clothing, perfumes - on back off the name he made of himself as Junaid Jamshed the rock and roll star! Junaid Jamshed the pop singer! He should leave mullahism, hatred, bigotry and go back to what made him a household name and what he is good at, singing and making music! Or are you saying that just because we are all "non-pious", then it gives all of us the right to talk rubbish and for others to just accept and ignore it, because they too are non-pious? In my mind, that is a very slippery slope. Surely, individuals that appear on TV have a moral duty to act responsibly, and by default they subject themselves to judgment, applause and/or criticism. Otherwise, they could effectively say anything they like without being censured. Civil society should always be allowed to appraise and reprimand someone if they violate a moral code. This has nothing to do with people's own piety or hypocrisy; it is a question of what standards we need to embed in our culture.

I think part of the problem lies with us, the people. Why do we treat him like an Islamic scholar? JJ might be a good Muslim, let God be the judge of that; however, music was his claim to fame, and only because he was known as a singer, media and people got overly fascinated by his transformation. JJ is a nobody as far as I am concerned, but this whole fiasco reflects poorly on us as people... we need to be more mature, but oh well. There is a reason we are where we are.

Can anyone objecting to JJ please explain what exactly he said that was so wrong in either of the video clips. Where exactly was he demeaning to women as posted on the social media? ... Make sure you watch both the clips first. Yes the diamond reference was out of place but other than that what exactly he said that you disagree with?

It doesnt appear to me that he was disrespectful towards women this time. He has done it in the recent past so people are fuming over this statement. He should just avoid discussing women and Islam. True man of God has nothing to do with fashions... True man of God always leave worldly things to serve his Creator. You can not serve two masters, God and wealth!!! "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

JJ was horrible singer, pathetic moulvi, and I wonder why people even call him "scholar"? what legitimate qualification he holds to be a "scholar"? I guess none. He is a jack of all trades and minting money on media 24/7. People like him has no ethics and no respect for religion because they are their to do a circus directed by cheap media and only good to throw mobile phone packets to stupid audience. All such elements has no pious credibility in their daily life.

I really hate when people dont understand the context of any talk and only exploit the wrong as usual we always see the wrong doing of anyone. If he is doing business than what ? he is not doing money laundering and not any corruption. Whole ramazan he was on the show but you always figure out anything against him. Helloooo everyone wake up and try to think any talk with reference to any context.

But to my dear sisters, please try to understand that God has created you as a very dignified and beautiful creature in the form of a loving mother, a sincere sister, a sacrificing wife, and ever loving daughter. There is no question of belittle of a women; they have a very important role to play in life and society. The more the women are shy and sober, the more they are beautiful and dignified to earn respect from hearts. Please understand JJ in this context.

Either don't be in the business of being a religious scholar/lecturer, or work harder on your material and prepare well before your speeches and sermons. Being in this profession is like walking on tight rope ! One should be careful of his actions, and the responsibilities as a scholar shouldn't be taken lightly. This is not popularity contest !! I would still want people to forgive him but our forgiveness shouldn't be taken lightly this time around.

Everyone can speak their mind. Let's avoid getting into arguments. I totally agree with some comments pointing to discuss matters or substance rather than controversial issues. Men and women compliment each other and world cannot exist without one of them, they are not in a competition and should not be compared. Period
