Soldier drowns in canal

An army soldier drowned while bathing in the Sindh canal late Sunday evening, officials at the New Faujdari police station said.

They identified the victim as Eijaz Khattak, son of Badshah Khattak, and said that he hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and served in the 22-signal battalion.

The police said that he and his friends were enjoying a picnic and the group was bathing in the canal when Mr Khattak disappeared. His body was fished out and taken to the Shikarpur Civil Hospital by his friends for a post-mortem examination.
